What About 888, 877 & 866 Numbers?
First of all, there are virtually no more ‘800′ numbers in the pool at all! 1-800 numbers have been available since the 70’s…hence almost all of the permutations and name combinations have been taken. Conversely, Internet domain extensions such as dot com have only been available since about 1993. They’re easier to find than 800 numbers.
Not to worry! Most people in North America have been totally informed for years that all of the vanity area codes…800, 888, 877 and 866 are toll-free. The argument that only 800 numbers are competitive is certainly not true. Consider the power phone numbers of these Fortune 500-sized companies:
- Exxon Oil with 1-877-MY-EXXON
- The SBC Corporation, with 1-866-SBC-DIAL
- Allstate Insurance with 1-888-ALLSTATE
- State Farm Insurance 1-877-SF4-Bank
- 3M Company 1-888-3M-Helps
- Safeway Inc 1-877-Safeway
- Best Buy with 1-888-BEST-BUY
These major companies prove the effectiveness of the 888, 877 and 866 area codes.
